Director-General Chen-yang Lee Visits Shi-an Community

On the morning of November 28, 2015, Director-General Chen-yang Lee of the Soil and Water Conservation Bureau (SWCB), with the company of Branch Director Cheng-chuan Huang, visited rural rejuvenation performance of Tainan City Houbi District Shi-an Community. Since 2011, Shi-an Community has participated in SWCB rural rejuvenation project and in 2013, it founded Shi-an Community Cooperative and distributed 20% of profits as elderly welfare funds.

University students of Tainan National University of Arts (TNNUA) recognized the development concept of Shi-an Community and resided in the village for long term. They not only reconstructed old houses to revitalize local idle space, but also expanded non-toxic rice cultivation square measure by years to produce high-quality non-toxic Shi-an Rice. By non-toxic agriculture and community short trip, they intended to increase community funds. Furthermore, by assisting with community children’s meals and accompanying them after school, they constructed children’s identification with the community. In the visit, Director-General Lee acknowledged development model of community staffs and TNNUA university students based on friendly cultivation and social enterprise as blueprint.
