Taiwan’s first pop science encyclopedia on soil and water conservation An Exploration into the World of Soil and Water Conservation—A Little Fish’s Secret Vacation made its debut - Agency of Rural Development and Soil and Water Conservation, MOA

For years, the SWCB has been promoting education among children, hoping to give the young generation the right concept of soil and water conservation. Following last year’s (2013) publication of Over the Hill is Home, a well-acclaimed illustrated book on soil and water conservation, Taiwan’s first pop science encyclopedia on soil and water conservation has just been released this year: An Exploration into the World of Soil and Water Conservation—A Little Fish’s Secret Vacation, targeting a reader base of pupils of the 5th and 6th grades and junior high school students. A book release and free book offer event was held in Huashan 1914 Creative Park today (November  22nd) for An Exploration into the World of Soil and Water Conservation—A Little Fish’s Secret Vacation. We hope to do our best in making the earth a better place, and to spread the “seeds” of soil and water conservation.

According to SWCB Director-General Huang Ming-yao, the idea of soil and water conservation has to take root in children, and education is one of the best ways to help conserve soil and water. It is not easy to compile a content-rich pop science encyclopedia on soil and water conservation in plain language. A big thank-you is given to those who have provided the necessary resources and support during the compilation of the book: (1) Mr. Chen Su-chin, Dean of the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources of National Chung Hsing University, who was so generous in providing professional consultation from the beginning to the end of the book’s compilation process; (2) natural science illustrator Ms. Chen Gui-e, who conducted several on-site investigations before illustrating the book with supreme quality; (3) Ms. Wu Li-ping, the writer of the book, who put the hard-to-understand engineering and professional knowledge about soil and water conservation into plain language; (4) Mr. Zhang Si-wei, the art editor of the book, who skillfully employs styles and designs that attract teenage readers; and (5) all SWCB members that have given full support during the process. It is due to a great many people’s support and assistance that the book came to fruition.
