School of Agricultural Science, University of Bonn, Visits Taiwan for its Rural Development

It has been three years since the Rural Regeneration Act was enacted, with the implementation attracting all attentions in Taiwan, as well as in international communities. Following the delegations from Thailand, China and Vietnam, 26 international graduate students and researchers from the University of Bonn, Germany, visited Taiwan on June 9th-13th. Led by Prof. Dr. Thomas Heckelei, Vice Dean of the School, they visited the Soil and Water Conservation Bureau today (12th) to better understand the Act. After visiting Taomi Community in Puli Township, Nantou County, they also highly recognized the extraordinary culture that combines rural and eco elements.

The Soil and Water Conservation Bureau organized Taomi community visits for scholars to understand the life characteristics and development experiences of rural residents. This visit to Taomi Community was cordially welcomed by the residents. The residents led a guided tour and explained the community’s diverse eco resources, the oversize bamboo-woven dragonflies and frogs, changes resulting from being part of rural regeneration campaign, and the policy of fulfilling sustainable development through the autonomous operation of all the industries in the community. The students and researchers, following the steps of the guides to understand the community, were impressed and delighted with this experience. Dr. Heckelei showed recognition of the community’s efforts in eco conservation, in particular its rejuvenated rural characteristics and improved ecosystem that resulted in economic prosperity.

Impressed by the Beautiful Rural Community with Rich Culture

Dr. Heckelei emphasized that their groups not only experience the beautiful rural landscape and hospitality of residents, but also learned the core of the Rural Regeneration Act. They were truly impressed with all of it.
