Implementation of New Southbound Disaster Prevention

Inauguration of 2018 Asia Pacific Smart Disaster Prevention Summit

2018 Asia Pacific Smart Disaster Prevention Summit and the Industrial Exhibition of Soil and Water Conservation and Disaster Prevention was launched on April 25 in Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center. The participants included governmental officers, experts and scholars from ASEAN members states, such as Vietnam, Philippines, and Nepal and they focused on the threats of disasters encountered by countries in Southeast Asia nowadays. Upon implementation of slopeland disaster prevention skills and experience of the Soil and Water Conservation Bureau (SWCB) for years and result of disaster prevention industry development in Taiwan IoT × Big Data × skill and practical application of cloud technology, they coped with the challenge of global climatic change.

According to Director-General Chen-yang Lee of SWCB, with climatic change, scale and frequency of disasters increase continuously. ASEAN members states are at the initial stage to execute disaster prevention. Taiwan and ASEAN members states share similar climatic and environmental conditions. Disaster prevention skills will be the most powerful tools for Taiwan to implement new southbound policy. Besides sharing the experience and outcome of implementation of slopeland disaster prevention for decades in Taiwan to Southeast Asian countries, it allowed related industries in Taiwan to recognize disaster prevention and rescue policy and current development in Southeast Asia countries, led to exchange among disaster prevention industries of Taiwan and countries of Southeast Asia, constructed long-term partnership between Taiwan and Southeast Asian countries and expanded business opportunities for domestic industries in Taiwan.
