May is Soil and Water Conservation Month,A Public Campaign

Soil and Water Conservation Promotion Activities Starts Nationwide

Mother’s Day is a prominent holiday in May and as the earth is also called Mother Nature, May has recognized as Soil and Water Conservation Month in Taiwan. Its purpose is to remind the public to pay more attention to soil and water conservation and to be aware of self disaster management. The Soil and Water Conservation Bureau (SWCB) has invited county/city governments, educational units, and associations to join an effort to promote soil and water conservation. More than 40 activities will be held throughout Taiwan in Soil and Water Conservation Month.

Soil and Water Conservation Bureau Opens for Public in Soil and Water Conservation Month

Director General of SWCB Huang Ming-yao said that “We will invite the groups nearby our office. The office will be open every Friday in May. There will be a “history corridor” composed by historical photographs. Volunteers will lead guide tours through the corridor.

International Exchange, Soil and Water Conservation Technologies Widely-Acclaimed by International Communities

SWCB has devoted to exchanging experiences and expertise with other countries. For example, the scope of the recently signed “Taiwan-Thailand Agricultural Cooperation” and “Taiwan-Vietnam Agricultural and Fishery Cooperation” contracts also covers soil and water conservation issues. The Thai government invited Taiwanese representatives to provide technical instruction in Thailand and in return, Thai governmental officials also visited Taiwan to learn more about Taiwan’s advanced soil and water conservation technologies. They highly praised Taiwan’s technologies and showed a willingness to introduce them into Thailand. The exchange was truly an excellent example of international diplomacy.
