Conference of River Clearance Project Management - Agency of Rural Development and Soil and Water Conservation, MOA

Since there is great amount of unstable sediment at upstream seriously damaged area of southern Taiwan and sediments are delivered to downstream areas after typhoons and torrential rains, the Soil and Water Conservation Bureau (SWCB) has continued the clearance for years to protect people’s safety.

On November 27, SWCB Tainan Branch invited Dr. Malone of Hong Kong University, Dr. Bergado of Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), and scholars of Feng Chia University to participate in conference of river clearance project management in National Cheng Gung University. Director-General Chen-yang Lee of SWCB stated that there are some problems of clearance construction which rely on further solution, including less space of temporary placement of sediment in serious sediment damaged area and possible transformation of great amount of river clearance sediment into valuable material as high economic measure. He expected to construct soil and water conservation strategy of the following decade by multi-dimensional strategies.
